BenQ has only really been known by US consumers for a couple of years, and mostly due to the company's increasingly stylish LCD displays for PCs and, now, LCD TVs. In Asia, the company has been selling digital cameras for a few years, and is now set to unleash these attractive cameras to the North American masses.
Well, some time, but not quite yet. The company tells me that no prices or release dates have been set yet for a line that includes the DC X600. BenQ claims the camera is the world's smallest (thinnest) 6 megapixel camera, and it does about everything you'd expect. It sports a movie mode and a nice, bright 2.5-inch LCD. Other cameras in the line displayed at CES pack OLED displays, and all of the BenQ cameras sport Pentax lenses. Ship date? "Maybe" in the second half of 2005 2006 , a company rep reports. (Thanks to gosomers, posting below, for the fix.)
