Working Out Jackie Chan Style

You may not have heard of interactive gaming company XaviX, but if you're looking to spice up your fitness routine, you may want to check into their new fitness game called J-MAT.

Endorsed and developed by martial arts action hero Jackie Chan,  J-MAT let’s you step into Jackie's shoes as he makes his way through the streets of Hong Kong, and if you’ve seen Jackie Chan’s films, his moves are no joke. The game has three levels, and includes a pair of one-pound hand weights for you fitness buffs and a wireless fitness mat where you practice all your moves.

As you may guess, you definitely get more than a thumb and index finger workout from this video game. I got to play a bit with the J-MAT at CES, which got me working up a sweat in less than 5 minutes of jumping and dodging obstacles. The only catch is, in order to play any Xavix interactive games, you need to purchase the XavixPORT gaming console which is about the size of a portable DVD player, and retails at $80.

Is interactive gaming an attractive fitness option for gamers, or is mixing fitness with pleasure no fun?

DDR anyone? (If you know what DDR is)

If this catches on with adults the way that DDR did with the younger crowd it'll be a big hit. Maybe something a little more sophisticated than Jacki Chan would be appealling.

I'm not sure why these guys and many other companies actually believe someone would pay extra for their own gaming console on top of the gaming consoles most people already have.....a partnership with Sony or Microsoft would probably have been better, Sony PS2 already has the EyeToy Kinetic product which is similar and gives a great workout (it was developed by training experts at Nike Sports facilities).
