Dell wasn't on the show floor in any significant way, but we got to go behind the curtain to see and touch the goodies that Michael Dell unveiled last night at his keynote. Here's the lowdown:
- Dell Mobile Concept Machine (shown above) -- One of the coolest ideas in recent memory, this is a kind of mash-up between a laptop, an iMac, and a sweet little TV. It's a full-fledged PC, complete with collapsible, 20-inch LCD and a handle for easy carrying. The keyboard is magnetically attached to the base; just yank it off and you can type from anywhere. But it's also stuffed with entertainment features, including a gyroscopic remote control and eight speakers (plus a subwoofer)! Right now this is just a concept -- Dell's reps gulped when I told them they shouldn't price it over $1,999 -- but if you all provide enough positive feedback in this post, they might just put it into production.
- Dell Inspiron 1705 -- This is just an update to the Inspiron line with a dual core Intel CPU and a revamped entertainment console.
- Dell XPS 600 Renegade -- The big, red, bad boy that everyone is fawning over. This sweet rig (featuring a custom flames-and-skulls paint job by Harley artist Mike Lavallee) is the first I've ever seen to support two dual-GPU Nvidia 7800 graphics cards (that's a total of four graphics chips). Plus, in a nifty move, Dell overclocks the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition chip right at the factory, pumping it up to 4.26GHz. Take that, society!
