Continuing the trend of Wi-Fi-enabled cameras, Nikon is showcasing its line of Coolpix P1 and P2 cameras (8 megapixels and 5 megapixels, respectively) at CES this week. While the two are not new to market, it was interesting to see them in action after getting a demo from Kodak on the capabilities of the EasyShare-one, from which you can email photos or upload them to your EasyShare gallery. A Nikon VP told me that the company feels email capabilities are not ready for prime time (read: not easy enough), thus Nikon's not adding it as a feature, yet. What Nikon does allow users to do, however, is upload images to the Web while you shoot more photos. You're not going to throw out your SD card tomorrow, but it does raise the prospect of, someday, uploading photos on the fly, with no local storage required. Would you feel confident uploading online without saving first?

The wi-fi technology from nikon is beyond slow. Prepare to take about 25 mins. out of your shooting to upload the pics.

The whole point of the wi-fi upload is to get rid of more wires. Not only is it nice to have one less cable dangling from the computer, but we don't have to worry about which cable we need to upload. Sure, it may take a minute or two longer to upload, but it gets the job done and it's worth it to us.

The wifi feature (g-Kodak is b) is one of the main reasons I bought this camera (P1). My wife really likes this feature as she does not have to look for the right cable for each upload. One complaint I have is that you still need the cable to set up the camera, so I can't through away the cable. If some day my wife's laptop has to be replaced, I will have to find the cable, which by then may be impossible. On the speed of upload, I did not find it particularly slow. I have uploaded many pictures and videos from the camera, I did not experience the long uplaod time mentioned by photographytime@sbcglobal.net. If anyone interested in the speed, send me an email, I may do a test over the weekend and let you know the result.

The article "says upload images to the Web while you shoot more photos." Nice idea, but I am not sure how it works. Most people do not take pictures in a Wifi covered area or Hotspot. Maybe it is for the professional photographer taking pictures in his own Wifi covered studio?

Why get this camera? Lousy... Get a olympus dslr instead. We need uploading to be fast.

I am a pro photogrpaher and am waiting for pro WIFI prices to drop. I can really use it when I shoot 2000-3000 images in a shoot and would love to have them transferred to a laptop.

what about using the wifi card and small piece of software that triangulates location using wifi acccess points? then you can automatically geotag your pictures...
